Two Veterans, One Workbench: The Story of Spare Time Workshop

Spare Time Workshop is 100% veteran-owned and operated right out of our home in South Carolina. Our journey didn’t begin at a carpenter's bench—it began with a shared lifetime of dedicated service in the United States Army.

As a husband-and-wife team of fellow veterans (including a proud retired Army veteran and female veteran co-founder), military discipline, integrity, and attention to detail are baked into everything we do. After hanging up our uniforms, we found our transition to retirement paved with sawdust, raw lumber, and an unexpected passion for timber artistry.

What began as a therapeutic outlet in our spare time quickly grew into something much deeper: a way to translate military pride, local heritage, and personal milestones into tangible, lasting art.

Crafted to Honor, Built to Last

Every single piece that leaves our shop carries the same high standard of excellence the Army instilled in us. We don’t mass-produce, and we don't cut corners. Whether we are:

    •    Hand-turning an executive desk pen on the lathe to highlight a rich, natural walnut grain,

    •    Meticulously charring flag stock to build a patriotic statement piece, or

    •    Pouring vibrant epoxy rivers into custom live-edge state-pride plaques...

...we treat every commission as if it were a presentation piece for a commanding officer.

Sharing Our Art With You

The absolute best part of this journey is working side-by-side as husband and wife, running a business we built from the ground up, and getting to share our passion with others. When you buy from Spare Time Workshop, you aren’t just getting a product off a shelf. You are bringing a piece of our workshop, our heritage, and our art into your home.

Thank you for supporting a veteran-owned small business and letting us create something special for you.
